I think it mostly has to do with the religious zealots being much more litigious and subsequently sympathetic in court rooms. The cops are more likely to be found in the legal right if they were beating up “some hippy protesting rich people.” so that hesitation isn’t as present.

I don’t have much to add to this … except Canete rocks.
especially the “i’m not sure i did this right…I showed her face” bit.
- Women love to clean; they love it so much, they wear nice clothes when scrubbing the toilet and they dance with their mops.
- Only women know how to clean or use cleaning products.

god our governor is literally retarded (okay not literally but she acts like it) but OKC’s mayor does gmh because he’s living proof that not all republicans are dumb (which is a stupid thing to assume anyway but so many people on tumblr do it)
There *are* a few sensible…
So I’ve started reading Gail Simone’s run on Birds of Prey and enjoying it greatly. And you know what, if you want to draw butts in taking up 3/4ths of every panel, okay, I can actually handle that pretty well. But JESUS FUCK, ED BENES. WHAT THE…
Oh, we definitely need more female artists, but yeah, a female artist is absolutely no guarantee that you won’t get tons of cheesecake fanservice. I have had female artists who made Ed look like a puritan in comparison, sincerely.
Ms. Simone that may be true. But I have not scene them.
In some cases, it may be because some things get edited before they go to print. The first couple that spring to mind are both great artists, I loved working with them, but the cheesecake was far greater than what Ed does. Adriana Melo in Rose and Thorn, we had to change a LOT of poses that were not supposed to be sexualized. Adriana is a fantastic artist but some of the stuff came to us looking very, very sexualized at inappropriate times. The other in the front of my mind is Joyce Chin, whom I worked with on Vampirella/Magdelena/Witchblade. GREAT artist, but holy mackerel, even fully clothed, her women carry a parental advisory!
I wonder why that is. I’ve seen it in more than just the comics Simone mentions. I know there’s a lot of pressure on women to be sexy and I think we definitely have a hand in perpetuating it to other women. Or is it overcompensating, misguidedly trying to do what we think the male-dominated comic company (and fandom) wants? I myself have been given “advice” on many occasions to make my female characters sexier. And, I mean, I’m a lesbian, and I like sexy women, and sometimes it’s fun for me to draw really sexy women.
When I started drawing adult comics, I found less pressure, both external and internal, to draw sexy women in my non-adult comics. Oh, there are still plenty of attractive women, but a lot of the sexualization was in the poses, which have become a lot more relaxed and natural and less concerned about looking hot. And I also know that some of the people I hear most strongly speaking out against sexualization of women in comics are also naughty comic artists.
I wonder if perhaps all comic artists should draw adult comics to get it out of their systems. :P
in the same realm. this is ALSO why I tend to read online comics more than actual ones, as I find them being less and less about the pure sexification of women.
Yesterday, two new comic books from the “New 52” relaunch of DC Comics provoked some online controversy: Catwoman and Red Hood and the Outlaws. They were controversial in particular because of the way they depicted women, notably with the aggressively fanfictiony on-panel sex between Batman…

- My child: [whilst listening to NPR this morning] Mommy, am I going to have to get that shot?
- Me: For HPV? Absolutely, when you're 11.
- My child: [looking fearful] But...they are saying on the radio it's dangerous.
- Me: This is because of people lying. Remember when I told you what misogyny is, how there are people who hate and undermine women?
- My child: Yeah.
- Me: That shot could save your life when you're older. You need to get it when you're young so it's there when you need it, that's how it works. But some people fear women and hate women. They're the ones responsible for having these things said. Even though they want us to be afraid, we have to be brave and not afraid. Okay?
- My child: Okay. That's horrible. Why would they do that?
- Me: I don't know.

maybe this is why i only read romance novels anymore. I should start reading autobiographies.
I Put a Spell on You - Screamin’ Jay Hawkins
Always and forever, I adore this song. I want more music, just like this. I want to make music like Screamin’ Jay Hawkins made sweet love to Gogol Bordello in a cabaret, and then they teamed up on Marie LaForet while listening to Leftover Crack.
Yup.
this is an amazing track FOR SURE
guh. love this man.
